Lone Grave of Nelly O'Driscoll, died 1890
Fisherman's Island Wei An „~ĪP (Penghu, Taiwan)
Nelly's grave is located in the western side of one of the islands of Penghu
(Pescadores), overlooking the Taiwan Strait. The lighthouse adjacent to her
grave was built by David Henderson in 1874 replacing one erected in 1828.
Ships passing the Strait must have increased a thousandfold in the last century.
Joining the scene are the frequent take-offs and landings of jets. This is
not to mention the yearly ritual of military exercises in nearby waters. There
is also increasing international interaction. Millions of expatriates from
various countries are working away from home and millions of immigrants call
a foreign country home.
Nelly should feel less lonely now.
